Your Odyssey
I decided to create a simple, 100-page blank journal with quotes from my debut book. Why? Because writing is important. It helps us process our feelings, reminds us of significant moments, and aids in reconciling our emotions with the world—whether it’s beautiful or devastating. It allows us to genuinely feel.
The act of journaling or writing holds immense value. It serves as a reflection of our inner thoughts, providing clarity amidst chaos. Journaling chronicles our journeys, our growth, and our transformations. It acts as a mirror, showing us our strengths, vulnerabilities, and areas of growth. Additionally, in moments of solitude or contemplation, revisiting our past writings can provide insights, answers, or simply comfort. With time, our casual notes, doodles, or thoughts can evolve into a story or even a book.
Journaling connects us to both the past and the future. We engage in an activity that humans have practiced for millennia, and our words have the potential to endure long after we’re gone.
To explain why I made this journal: I’ve been journaling for many years. In my debut book, several chapters or quotes might not have existed if I hadn’t written them down years prior. For instance, the quote in the education chapter was inspired during my time at University as an older student. Alongside my binder and class notes, I always had my journal ready to capture insights, whether from professors or from the study material.
Beyond academia, I’d journal nightly about my day, my aspirations, fears, and prayers. Looking back, I wish I could reassure that younger man, letting him know how far he’d come and thanking him for preserving those memories.
I went to Indigo recently looking for a journal. While there are some great ones, they’re all priced over $25, which isn’t for me. So, I chose to design my own for $10. It isn’t fancy, but it serves its purpose, whether to inspire or to be there when inspiration strikes.
